I choose to work in transparent watercolor because my high school art teacher made painting landscapes in this medium look effortless and magical! I was hooked on that first introduction and remain intrigued and challenged to this day! Often I will "see" a painting reference when least expected. Luckily, with smartphone in tow, capturing unexpected reference material is a cinch. The subjects I choose to paint are bathed in light, creating a full range of values. While I am most inspired by the beauty in nature, I also enjoy rendering unsuspecting figures in candid form. I want viewers to recognize something new in familiar subjects or settings. When I viewer "sees" something new in an already understood scene, I feel I've achieved the intended goal.
