Developing good compositional awareness results in keeping the viewerâs attention. We must be storytellers. We must captivate. Providing an element of mystery hopefully provokes some intrigue. Leaving the door open for interpretation, a painting ought to resonate with its audience. There should be some spark of familiarity. This is what allows each viewer to bring their own unique interpretation to a painting. The goal for all creative work is to engage the viewer as an active participant helping them wander, explore, and experience wonder within the boundaries of the composition
