Joanne Simpson - The Center of the World (Pink Peony)
Watercolor painting by Joanne Simpson from the Montana Watercolor Society.
Artist Statement: Working in watercolor constantly surprises me! This process of batik on rice paper is particularly challenging. Working from the lightest lights to the darkest darks, the technique is accomplished by alternating washes and hot wax (as many as 16-20 applications) until the image comes into focus and the entire paper is covered with wax. The wax is then ironed off to produce a lovely translucent painting.Â
