Shirley Kleppe - What a Riot
Watercolor painting by Shirley Kleppe.
Artist Statement: After studying the glass of Chilhuly, I painted my interpretation of his glass using the Sumi-E technique of thick and thin lines to show brillant colors, form, and composition of a difficult subject. I have studied Sumi-E painting, and felt the only way to try to interpret glass was to use this technique. It was very difficult, and the drawing was impossible. Throughout the process, I went back into the painting and did corrections.
